Spring Magic
The best part about spring is getting to play in the water. I spent a good part of the afternoon last weekend wandering around the yard splashing through puddles and squishing in the mud. My children wandered around with me. Or they did until one of them got a boot stuck and stood screaming with a white sock held dangling above a lone boot deep in some muck. Another one, my son, broke through ice and found himself standing in water up to his knees. I was left alone out in the wilderness. Read more on Spring Magic…
The Bigger Picture
“Things are never as bad as they seem
You just gotta learn to see
The forest for the trees” – Huey Lewis and the News
What has amazed me about the retreats and youth conferences I’ve been involved with is how quickly the kids see the big picture.
A favorite game is the beam. The goal is simple. Everyone has to get up and over a wooden beam positioned about 9 feet off the ground. Once a person is over the beam they cannot help lift anyone else. They still make sure everyone is safe by spotting but they are essentially “done the game”. It is important that everyone help each other for safety reasons. Most groups realize quickly the practical problems that must be solved. Leave some stronger people for the end. But the strongest person is usually the largest. So, the last person has to be agile enough to be able to leap and get over the beam.

Life Paths
As I sit here contemplating possible things to ramble about I wonder how I even got doing this gig in the first place. It began nearly two years ago. I must have sent something into the paper. Beyond that, I cannot remember what lead to my little corner of the publishing world. Read more on Life Paths…
Camp Closes
I heard once that anything worth doing never comes easy. I’ve spent several sad moments in the past week pondering this little saying. I am disappointed, angry, sad, upset, (enter appropriate adjective here) when I received the news. Read more on Camp Closes…
